Pencils.com

Charles Berolzheimer of California Cedar Products, Inc. hired us, initially, to overhaul an ancient but well named pencils.com site.

In 2005 Pencils.com was just used for their pencils business to provide static information out to the public. Knowing the fact that the name pencils.com had enormous potential CalCedar sought to expand the site using the best technology available at the time. Realizing the global move towards community, social commerce and the fact that they could hold the niche for the pencils community they found the best tool for the job would be Drupal and Ubercart.

Throughout the first year they experienced common beginning Drupal problems that many first year Drupal clients come across, the biggest being the Drupal "talent" they hired lacking the level of skill that the project needed. Plagued by excessive module usage, bad theme planning and execution, hacking of core and modules, no use of any version software and half baked server configurations.

By 2007 it was obvious the 'developers' they were using were not working out. Those developers in conjunction with CalCedar used Objective-A to come in fulfill the unfinished features and clean up the project as well as could be with a reasonable amount of resources. Unfortunately the damage to the core and the modules had been too heavy to continue to count on neither using the present Drupal 5 build
